Watch "The Arrow's Path" to see how OA ceremonies have changed over the years.

At the core, the OA remains the same

Brotherhood. Cheerfulness. Service. Those principals and the Admonition, that have lead the Order of the Arrow since its founding, are not changing. This new induction process is designed to strengthen lodges by better explaining to a new member what the OA is and engaging them with their crew to form friendships that outlast the weekend.

Come see and experience the new induction for yourself!

Meet the new luminary role

Imagine you're joining a troop as a new Scout. You're nervous about meeting the older Scouts and not quite sure what you should be doing at meetings and campouts. Just then, an older Scout, a troop guide, gathers up all the new faces in the troop to welcome you and get you started with the first steps in your Scouting journey.

The same qualities shown by the troop guide are what a luminary should be for the new members of your lodge. Throughout the weekend they guide a crew of new members through conversations, reflections, and work projects to help them better understand what the Order of the Arrow is about.

Who would be a good luminary?

Lodges need a core group of Arrowmen to fill this vital position in the induction. It's a new way to show (and grow) your leadership abilities!

Consider being a luminary if you've...

New faces of the ceremony

One of the most striking parts of the current OA induction are the pre-Ordeal and Ordeal. The awe of those ceremonies has been carried over to the new Ceremony of the Arrow (Friday) and Ceremony of the Fire (Saturday) as the story and purpose of the Order of the Arrow is explained by the five officers.

Those who have been a principal in the current ceremonies will notice several lines that have been carried forward. New members will still step forward, test the bow, and be given challenges for the weekend.

An instantly recognizable change is there are now five Officers of the Ceremony. The Chief Luminary role is designed to be "on script," which is great for a new Arrowman to the team who is just learning the lines. They can also prompt the others if a teammate needs assistance.

What the officers wear is different too. The voices will wear a cape with a representative symbol on the front and back. The Chief of the Fire wears an academic robe and a black sash with a single white stripe; similar to what the OA's founders wore at the original 1915 induction. The Chief Luminary wears their Scout uniform.
